One of two generals never to have lost a battle,

(together with Tuthmosis III) Alexander the Great

conquered the ancient world between 336BCE and

323BCE, disseminating Hellenic culture, religion

and folklore wherever he set foot which served

as a prelude to the Hellenistic Era. Here, he identifies

with the Greek demi-god Hercules by wearing the

skin of the Nemean lion and thus alluding to his

divine status as son of the sun-god Zeus-Amun.

The sun of Vergina, as it is popularly known today,

is typically a 16-pointed star (can also be 12-point

or 8-point) used widely by the Ancient Greeks and

adopted by the Macedonians as their royal insignia.

The sixteen points represent the four elements

(earth, fire, water and air) as descried by Aristotle

and the twelve primary forces or 'neters' of the

universe personified as the famous Olympian

dodecadon (Zeus, Artemis, Aphrodite, Apollo,

Poseidon etc).
